The Fesival Jazzoffensive enters its 10th round! Under the theme "I sing the body...!", the festival invites international musicians and bands to fabrik Potsdam. After the last edition focussing on string instruments, this time one of the most important and personal instruments in jazz is in the spotlight: the voice. Jazzoffensive presents a colourful and multi-faceted line-up, with the usual bold contrasts: the artist Simin Tander (under contract with the famous jazz label ECM) sings in English and Pashto/Afghaani and presents her New Quartet. Serbian singer and actress Jelena Kuljić's band KUU! mixes punk, jazz and noise and brings together some of the hottest jazz musicians, such as drummer Christian Lillinger and Finnish guitarist Kalle Kalima. The ensemble Hilde plays chamber music jazz in an unusual line-up with trombone, voice, violin and cello. Korean singer Song Yi Jeon, who was invited by her mentor Dianne Reeves on her European tour last year, celebrates the art of singing in an intimate duo with New York guitarist Vinicius Gomes. Vocal virtuoso Alex Nowitz improvises with sound artist Ignaz Schick on the turntables. The improvisation format JazzLab can also be experienced: Together with choreographer and dancer Naïma Mazic and percussionist Evi Filippou, fabrik Potsdam's JugendTanzCompany will be exploring the common ground between improvisation in dance and jazz in a workshop.
