In Nature of a Fall, Adi Boutrous confronts humanity’s deepest contradiction: The pull between destruction and the longing for shared harmony. Six dancers move through cycles of ascent and collapse. They climb one another like fragile structures, only to fall again – bodies catapulted, carried, resisting. Renewal appears possible only through ruin, abandoning old perceptions in favour of new ones.
Driven by intense physical energy, the piece repeatedly returns to its starting point. Through shared movement, contemporary catastrophes, and collective trauma are mirrored alongside gestures of solidarity and mutual support. Moving between failure, resistance, and collective creation, Nature of a Fall asks whether we are still able to see one another, listen to one another – and to hope.
Adi Boutrous is a choreographer, dancer and soundtrack designer who has built an international career since his award-winning debut in 2013. Works such as One More Thing, commissioned by the Théâtre de la Ville, and Reflections, premiered at the Suzanne Dellal Centre and later presented at the Biennale de la Danse de Lyon, have toured widely across Europe. In 2022 he became the youngest recipient of the Israeli Minister of Culture and Sport Prize for Dance. His work explores power relations and social tension through a physically charged language based on bodily contact, oscillating between risk and support. Drawing on literature, painting and cinema, he combines humanistic depth with a strong musical dramaturgy that shapes the temporal structure of his pieces.
