Duos and Other Tiny Units – under this motto the Jazzoffensive 2019 presents small band formations of jazz. The intensity of a duo or trio creates magical moments between musicians and audience.
Wonderful bands are presented on the stage of the fabrik Potsdam, among others the Berlin jazz old master and composer Ulrich Gumpert with the worldwide touring saxophonist Silke Eberhard, as well as the ex-Rainbirds musician and first prize winner of the German Jazz Prize Ulrike Haage with Christian Meyer, both currently active in the field of film, dance and radio play music, and here to experience one of their rare dialogues with the audience live. Eagerly awaited is the duo by bassist Carlos Bica and saxophonist Daniel Erdmann, who offer open and melodious music between Portugal and Germany and take everyone on a journey into the lightness of the South. Their current CD "I am the escaped one" was recorded with DJ Illvibe aka Vincent von Schlippenbach by the two award-winning musicians.
The cross-genre dance and sound performance by sound installer Bob Rutman, Yuko Matsuyama and Munsha is a reminiscence of new music and visual arts. Robert "Bob" Rutman not only created his sculptures, but also played them. He is regarded as a pioneer of multimedia performance; his Steel Cello, which he developed among other things, was used not only in works with Robert Wilson, Heiner Goebbels or Merce Cunningham, but also in joint performances with Einstürzende Neubauten.
The series JazzLab of fabrik Potsdam presents the formation Three your Mind as a trio. The Potsdamers describe their musical style as Hydrazz, for like the multi-headed Hydra of Greek mythology, their art manifests itself as indomitable, free, and sometimes inclined to escalate across styles. Elements from experimental jazz, fusion, breakbeat and funk are interpreted and presented in a communicative and improvisational way. No less experimental is the duo Chaise und Chaiselongue with ICP Orchestra member Tristan Honsinger and Joel Grip, who perform with humour and ease in a Dadaist music theatre performance.
Thomas Fehlmann will ring in the conclusion of the music-intensive days on Saturday. The co-founder of Palais Schaumburg and active part in the techno project The Orb revives the theme of dance with a DJ set. He is a jazz enthusiastic musician who lets this preference flow into his manifold projects and shows what influence jazz can have on many musicians of other musical worlds.
