The stage of the new creation by Canadian dancer and acrobat Emile Pineault is inviting, soft and surrounding: an oval stage made of pink fabric, microphones, two humans, 20 soft sculptures, and a synthesizer. In this utopian space, in which figures, forms and textures merge, the audience observes how these bodies meet, fold, unfold, connect and interlock. In More-than-Things, Emile Pineault and Claudel Doucet twist their acrobatic practices to reveal the materiality of the body. They become toys, objects, tools, a climbable heap or a bendable mass. The result is a mobile vocabulary that combines sensitive geometry and radical softness. The power relations at play between human and environment are questioned, the norms of identification, orientation and desire are reinvented. The audience is gently consumed by a quest for pleasure that is not exclusively human-centered, unleashing a sensory space; heterogeneous and ecstatic.
This presentation is a work-in-progress version of More-than-Things, that concludes the residency program Studio Québec in fabrik Potsdam.
