After thirty years of duet work Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion spent one year apart to create their first solos, Rewriting and The Solo Piece. Each solo reviews past work and future possibilities without sentimentality, sharing their trademark wit and intelligence to reconsider what a choreography might be. These are two works about working, shared in parallel by two long-time and experienced collaborators.
Jonathan Burrows and Matteo Fargion have been working together since 1989, and their ongoing body of work continues to tour widely. The work is hard to place, combining intellectual rigour with unexpected humour, but it has its roots in a shared love of classical music, which they clash against an approach to performance that is at once open to audience but also joyful and anarchic.
