With Ever So Slightly, Victor Quijada takes ten dancers into a raw post-industrial world. The stage is bare, on an elevated platform the musicians dominate the action, which begins quietly and harmoniously at first, but gradually loses control. Quijada combines delicacy and finesse with brute, explosive movements to capture the energy of urgency, revolt, and flight from danger. Visible are the reflexes and mechanisms that emerge to counter aggression and constant stimulation. The volatile mood between harmony and chaos is emphasised by the soundscape of the musicians, who react with the dancers to both provoke and appease. Victor Quijada and RUBBERBAND captivated the festival’s audience back in 2017 with Vic's Mix. The unique movement language of the Canadian company – a virtuoso balance of forces sprinkled with hip hop, capoeira, and martial arts – makes his pieces unmistakable.
