Mbeuk Mi Wossi

Idolboyz (Thiès/Senegal)

09 – 10 Jun 2023 | Potsdamer Tanztage 2023Dance / performance

A boat, two young men, the sea – Mbeuk Mi Wossi (No to Emigration) is both a performance and a research work on the subject of migration on the Senegalese coast. Based on interviews they conducted with people either about to cross to Europe or who had already attempted it and had to turn back, the two hip hop dancers tell the fictional story of a young Senegalese man. The desire for better living conditions, hope for change, and distorted as well as disappointed expectations are the themes addressed in this piece. With an excerpt of the piece, the two artists won the Sunu Talents Prize of the Goethe Institute in Senegal in 2022.

Afterwards on both days: talk with the artists
